Caring for sensitive skin, step by step

If your skin stings, flushes or reacts to new products, a shorter routine with fragrance-free formulas is often the kindest start.

"Sensitive skin" describes how skin behaves rather than a single skin type: it may sting after cleansing, flush with heat, or react to new products. A calm routine is usually a short one.

Keep it simple

A gentle cleanser, a soothing serum if you want one, a barrier cream and a mineral sunscreen. That is enough for most days.

Centella and panthenol are well-tolerated favorites.

Read the label

Fragrance and essential oils are common triggers. Look for "fragrance-free" rather than "unscented". Centella, panthenol, colloidal oat, allantoin and ceramides are well-tolerated favorites.

Patch test

Apply a small amount behind the ear or on the side of the neck for a few days before using a new product on your face.

When to see a professional

If you have persistent redness, swelling, pain or a rash, skincare cannot replace an exam: please see a dermatologist. Our consultant will say the same and can suggest a very gentle routine in the meantime.
